The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will need to fix this issue before launch

Right now, we’re all waiting to see how the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will perform. While that’s the case, there are already rumors surrounding the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Similar to the Mediatek Dimensity 9300, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 may have issues that will need to be ironed out before launch.

The flagship Snapdragon chip range is set to have a massive change, as Qualcomm is moving away from the ARM architecture for the 8 Gen 4. This is a major shake-up, as the mass majority of mobile chips use the CPU architecture from ARM. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, however, will be powered by Qualcomm’s custom CPUs called Oryon.

Back in 2021, Qualcomm acquired a company called Nuvia in the hopes that it would be able to create its own custom CPUs to take on the massively popular Apple A-series chips. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be the first chip to use this architecture, but there might be some hurdles.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 might have some issues that will need to be fixed

Right now, we don’t have too much information on this chip, what information we have is on early production hardware. This chip is not slated to launch until next year, so there could be several changes in the meantime.

According to WCCFTech, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is running into some power consumption issues in its early testing. This is despite being manufactured on TSMC’s N3E process. This process is said to be rather power-efficient compared to the N4P process of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. That seems odd, and it doesn’t look great for this chip. Power efficiency is one of the most important aspects of a chip. If the chip is having serious power consumption issues, it still has a ton of time to fix them before the launch.

Rumored specs

An early leak from Tech_reve said that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 provides decent performance, but we’re still talking about early hardware. Based on the leaks, it looks like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be an octa-core processor. It could have two higher-powered performance cores with six lower-powered efficiency cores.

More information on this upcoming chip will come out as it nears its official release. Hopefully, it will be able to go toe-to-toe with Apple’s future chips.
