Chelsea vs Morecambe

Kick off: 14:30

Date: Sun, 10-Jan-21

Probable Lineups

Team News

Frank Lampard has kept his Chelsea job for now but he is under pressure following a spluttering start to the season off the back of their stunning summer spending spree. Chelsea have won just one of their last seven matches in all competitions and have lost four times in that spell. Last time out they were well beaten by Manchester City.

Morecambe will be fresh heading into the FA Cup third round on Sunday, having last played on Boxing Day. The Shrimpers currently occupy a play-off spot in League Two and have won their last four league matches. This FA Cup tie is set up perfectly for them to give their best shot, although that is unlikely to be enough to knock out Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Defeat would be disastrous for Lampard but surely that cannot happen here. If anything, Lampard will hope to use this match against lower league opposition to build some confidence. Anything other than a comfortable home win would be a surprise.

Prediction by Squad

Chelsea 3-0 Morecambe

Aston Villa vs Liverpool

Kick off: 20:45

Date: Fri, 08-Jan-21

Probable Lineups

Team News

Aston Villa endured mixed fortunes across the festive period, picking up four points from their three games. They’ll face Liverpool at Villa Park for the first time since their 7-2 mauling of the Reds back in October and have put 12 goals past the Merseyside giants in their last two home meetings.

Liverpool hardly covered themselves in glory over the festive schedule, drawing twice and losing once. Now winless in three, Jurgen Klopp will be hoping a change in competition can bring about a change in fortunes, though his side have won only one of their last seven away matches.

Villa’s recent home record hasn’t been great and having lost their last five FA Cup matches, crashing out in the third round of the competition in the last four attempts, Liverpool have the means to prolong that poor domestic run on Friday. Though it remains to be seen whether this game goes ahead following a significant outbreak of COVID for the home side.

Match Facts

* Aston Villa have seen over 2.5 goals in their last 5 home matches against Liverpool in all competitions.
