Imo state police have arrested a 40-year-old man, Uzoamaka Ugoanyanwu, who is said to be a notorious native doctor who allegedly prepares charms for members of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB and members of the Eastern Network Security, the proscribed IPOB’s security arm.
According to a statement issued by Bala Elkana, the state police command’s spokesperson, on June 8, tactical teams of the command stormed Ukwuorji, Mbaitoli Local Government Area, along Onitsha road, and arrested a 65-year-old man, Ezeugo Ordu, a native of Ubachima, Omuma, Oru West LGA.
Bala, said during interrogation Ezeugo confessed to being a member of IPOB/ESN and provided useful information to the police about recent attacks on police stations as well as the residence of Governor Hope Uzodinma.
According to the police spokesperson, Ezeugo then led command operatives to the IPOB/ESN camp, a bush near the Njaba River, where nine people were arrested while planning another attack.
He stated that various charms were recovered from them.
According to the spokesperson, two (2) of the nine suspects arrested in the hideout, Chinedu Nwakaire aka One Door, 48, and the native doctor, were identified as members of the hoodlums who attacked Gov. Hope Uzodinma’s private residence as well as some police stations.
He stated that they confessed to the crime and described their roles in the operations.
He went on to say that the state Commissioner of Police used the occasion to reiterate his call for members of the IPOB/ESN or any other criminal syndicate operating in the state, particularly those who stole police arms and ammunition, to voluntarily surrender in order to receive a “soft landing,” or they will be arrested and subjected to the full wrath of the law.
