West Ham star to earn a new contract to deter Liverpool bid
Manchester United have had a troublesome time this season and have started the season very poorly. There have been so many off-the-field issues that it has taken its toll on Erik ten Hag and his team. However, there may be some light at the end of the tunnel with a new signing being lined up for January and a player who can pass out from the back comfortably.
Another Portuguese international to join the Manchester United ranks
With players like Nani, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot all playing for Manchester United from Portugal (the less said about Bebe and Joel Pereira the better), Goncalo Inacio is the latest Portuguese star set to play at Old Trafford and one that could save their season.
With defensive issues at the club and players dropping like flies, there is a real need for a consistent centre-back at Manchester United. United currently have Lisandro Martinez in the physio room, Raphael Varane is never too far away from it and both Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire are not in the plans for ten Hag.
Given Jonny Evans is no spring chicken, United need to improve at the back and Inacio is the man to do that for them. A player who can carry out from the back, look to penetrate defences and be assured in defence is what United are in dire need of because it was evident against Crystal Palace that they are lacking such a player.
Would a deal go through?
Despite Inacio signing a new deal with Sporting Lisbon recently, the 22-year-old does have a release clause in his contract that Manchester United are willing to meet. Having ordered scouts to go watch Inacio, United are on track to pay the release clause of £52 million and snap up the Portuguese international so he is available for the club as soon as possible in January.
United have a good relationship with Sporting Lisbon and a favourable deal could be made soon.
