The Enugu State Governor, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has described the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as a viable tool for the implementation of critical national development programs.
Governor Mbah, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Lloyd Ike-Ekweremadu, stated this on Tuesday, November 7th, 2023, during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation camp in Awgu.
While congratulating the corps members, the governor noted that the scheme has over the years lived up to its vision of fostering national unity and integration among Nigerian graduates by impacting positively on the national development process, especially in rural communities.
Governor Mbah assured the NYSC management of his commitment to give the orientation camp a face lift through critical infrastructural projects and timely completion of ongoing projects.
In her remark, the State Coordinator, Barr (Mrs) Gladys Adama, while commending the governor for his assistance in revamping the orientation camp, decried the deplorable state of the road leading to the camp, which has posed a big challenge for vehicular movement, and appealed for the kind intervention of the governor in fixing the road.
Stressing the need for skill acquisition, Barr. Adama urged all corps members to take seriously the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training established to enable corps members to acquire vocational skills during the service year, as well as respect all camp rules and officials and conduct themselves in accordance with the NYSC laws.
She reiterated that the orientation course is a rare opportunity for self-development and actualization as well as contribution to national development, and all camp activities are compulsory for all corps members.
The Oath of Allegiance was administered by the Chief Judge of Enugu State, Hon. Justice R. A. Ozomena, who was represented by His Lordship, Hon. Justice A. O. Onovo. A total of 1544 corps members, comprising 812 males and 732 females, took the Oath of Allegiance.
