The Young Progressives Party (YPP), Allied People’s Movement (APM) and Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Anambra State have suffered huge setbacks as about 7,000 members across the 21 local government areas in the state joined the All Progressive Congress (APC), to declare their support for Senator Andy Uba candidacy in the November 6, 2021 governorship election.
The seven thousand decampees were received by the State Chairman of APC, Chief Basil Ejidike, National leader of Afoigbobuofu Movement, Hon. Onyedika Chukwuma, Senator Andy Uba and his Governorship Campaign Council, headed by Chief Paul Chukwuma during a stakeholders meeting, held at Marble Ark Awka, on Thursday night.
In their seperate speeches, the State Chairman of Action Democratic Party (ADP), Chief Mathias Ameke, APM Sate Chairman, Pastor Isaac Onuka and the over all chairman of the 326 wards executives of YPP in Anambra, Honourable Obiora Ochiudo, listed the ongoing construction of the Second Niger Bridge, the ongoing construction/rehabilitation of Enugu-Onitsha expressway, appointment of two ministers from Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige (Minister of Labour and Productivity), Barrister Sharon Ikeazu (Minister of State for Environment), their quest to belong to the centre and other landmark achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration across the South East geopolitical zone as the reason behind their decision to join the APC, promising to rally more supporters to ensure APC’s victory in the poll.
According to them, “we have decided to join the APC to support Andy Uba because of his genorosity and his developmental plans for the people. Though there are enemies of the state against him but he remains the best man to connect us to the national grid. So we will joinly work for him in the remaining 28 days to ensure he wins and takes over power from governor Willie Obiano, whose second tenure ends March 17, 2022.

“So, it is on this note that we decided to join the APC with our 7,000 members so that we will be able to deliver Andy Uba during the election.”
Our correspondent gathered that the defectors were all aggrieved card carrying members of the affected parties; YPP, APM and ADP.
Receiving the defectors, the State Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, thanked them for their decision and urged them to vote for the party candidate, Andy Uba to enable him fixed the state economically to International standard.
According to Ejidike, “APGA and PDP are worried about the popularity of Senator Andy Uba; I commend you all for joining APC under my leadership in the srate”, he said.
In his address, Andy Uba assured the people of massive turnaround in infrastructural development if elected as governor, come November 6, 2021.
He also assured the new entrants that he would run an all-inclusive administration.
“I urge you all to talk and encourage your parents, your age grade, associates and your various communities to vote for the APC for a positive change,” he pleaded.
Speaking against the backdrop of governor Obiano’s visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Uba said the move was in sync with his believe that “when one is confronted with challenges beyond his capacity, the right and proper thing to do is to seek help from higher authorities.
“For days and weeks now, I have persistently urged Governor Obiano to step out of Government House with a view to finding lasting solution to the problem, but the answer I got was a further politicisation of the problem”, Uba added.
