Some escaped prisoners from the Owerri Correctional Centre have reportedly voluntarily returned to the prison after some gunmen stormed the prison and freed the prisoners.
After the escape of the prisoners, the Minister of Interior Affairs, Rauf Aregbesola has made it known that the Federal Government is ready to grant amnesty to the inmates who out of their own will come back to the prison after they were released.

According to a report by The Punch, an inside source within the facility has admitted that around 84 prisoners out of 1,884escaped inmates have returned to the prison. The advanced and highly skilled criminals were not among the group of prisoners that returned to the facility.
The source said: “we now have about 85 inmates as our custody this Wednesday afternoon. We are hopeful that more inmates would return. Though the number has not been made public but I can confirm that as of this afternoon we now have about 85 inmates.

“While some returned on their own accord, others were brought by their lawyers and family members. We are very hopeful that more inmates will come back on their own. This is just a reformative centre and we hope that those of them who have turned new leaf will come back on their own.”
