21 tourists killed in Venice bus accident

A bus carrying tourists has crashed off a flyover in Venice killing 21 people and leaving 18 others injured

The electric bus went up in flames after it broke through a barrier and plunged almost 50feet near railway tracks in Mestre, which is connected to Venice by a bridge.

Venice city councillor, Renato Boraso who said the cause of the accident was unclear, however explained that the driver, a 40-year-old Italian who was also killed in the accident was ill before the crash.

According to foreign media, the death toll could rise, as several of those hurt were in a critical condition

Three children including a baby were am the dead.

The bus was also carrying passengers from France and Croatia.

Meanwhile, the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her condolences to families who lost their loved ones in the accident.
